SAHMS in the Classroom

SAHMS plans to host a database of pedagogical resources for using the history of medicine, science, technology, and related fields in the classroom. The idea for this database came out of round table discussions at conferences. Eventually, the hope is to provide not only syllabi, but also classroom activities, lectures, slides, reading lists, lecture notes, tips, tricks, and feedback on including history of medicine, science, technology, and related fields in the classroom. We will begin by collecting syllabi. Below is a featured syllabus to get us started and inspire you to share.

Please use our SAHMS in the Classroom form to submit your syllabus.

Race and Medicine Syllabus

"What do Denzel Washington, a twentieth-century nonprofit, and leprosy have in common? They all have contributed to how we understand the relationship between race and medicine. In this interdisciplinary course, students will examine a variety of texts—ranging from television shows to medical textbooks to congressional legislation and more— to gain a more holistic understanding of the central role race has played in the development and delivery of medical care in the United States."
